Even though feeding animals in a way that causes unnecessary suffering is prohibited in the European Union, foie gras-producing countries are ignoring this measure. As the world’s leading producer, the French state continues to actively support force-feeding and to use its influence to hinder any initiative aimed against this industry. As animals are sentient beings, force-feeding is condemned by a growing number of citizens, agri-food businesses and countries throughout the world.
