For those who have not seen this as yet, I wrote this in the Seals of Namibia Protest which we has on Sat 20 July. "Hi there all, those on my friends list have already read this. I felt I had to say it. I think its wonderful that we had this protest and so many as 50 people attended. We however must question the crowd of people we attract to a cause as great as this. People need to be able to relate to us. From the group of like 50 people, 46 were from Caucasian background, 1 African and 3 Indians including myself. Do you think we are able to speak to the African, Indian and Colored people? We are creating a perception that such protests are only for a certain group. Have you considered bringing along a friend from a different ethnic group than yourself? We need to be able to diversify. 80% of the population are of African ethnicity, how is our message reaching them? Just check the photos. We should be able to involve celebrities from other racial groups as well. For Instance I honestly had no clue who that model was did not even know she was present till people started posting photos with her. Just imagine if we got some guy from Chiefs or Bafana Bafana or a Jazz Musician. If we want our cause to spread and people know we need to be strategic about it. We want to create positive perceptions. When I was at the Greenpeace Against Coal and for renewable event it was the 1st of its kind where I saw so much diversity with age, race, gender. People came with their kids and family. This is a food for thought. Peace :)"
