For those whove been asking, I am finally going to post a bit - TopicsExpress

For those whove been asking, I am finally going to post a bit about all this archery stuff weve been doing. Credit goes to Brandee for having found this whole PVC bow culture and made her own and introducing me to it, and Tyson for getting us serious about pursuing it! Youtube user BackyardBowyer was an invaluable resource. While I did not precisely follow his instructions (youtu.be/vu5UnBrQE6E, parts 1-4), this is the closest tutorial to what I ended up doing to make Tysons and my bows. I also knew that I wanted a short bow (like the types used in antiquity to fire from horseback) so that I could be more mobile and less encumbered in the gym, and that I wanted something strong enough to shoot across the gym but able to be fired without severely damaging a person (with appropriately padded arrows). Weve continually updated the materials and I ended up completely reworking my bow, but Ive made an album with pics of some of the things if youre curious. I also just began upgrading my quiver from a tube of pvc in a camelbak to a pvc spine with fabric and tape sides that is wider mouthed and much lighter, sans backpack, and am crafting a bracer and arm plate from the pvc I removed. As for technique, we are mostly using modified versions of this dagger style russian archery (youtu.be/1o9RGnujlkI) youtube user SeregedelReal for very quick reloading and firing that does not require looking at the arrow or nock. Our arrows have been designed to complement this style with huge V shaped nocks and a tactile thumb cue to allow for proper alignment by touch. The padding currently comprises a cork, 4 layers of camping ground-pad foam, and neon orange gaff tape with black gaff tape flights on 2 lengths of 3/8 dowel rods (which ought to make all real fletchers and archers cringe and shudder). We have been having stupid-ridiculous amounts of fun making up game types and shooting each other. Also, I am going to write a much more technical account for those interested, so message me if youre actually looking to participate in building/innovating/testing these types of things with us, and want to learn more.
