For those with the nashing teeth about the lopsided game score, - TopicsExpress

For those with the nashing teeth about the lopsided game score, you may grumble and cry Bully .....But NO one ever has the whole story, the complete story. I was watching the Aledo Western Hills game last Friday night from, for me, a very different, very biased stand point. My grandson was playing. And my husband was sitting next to me! As a coachs wife Ive seen my husbands teams on both sides of the W/L column. It is difficult on BOTH sides. Losing isnt easy but is a challenge to pick it up and never, never quit. It is a lesson on how to conduct real life situations. When adversity hits you high and hits you low....you keep on keeping on. How coaches handle this even tho there is not a snow balls chance....teach, prepare, plan, and execute anyway and never, never quit. Winning with grace and humility is difficult. How coaches handle their students here is even more delicate. Humility is not an easy character trait, to possess or acquire. But believe me it can be done. In all my years I have seen few teams do such a good job of playing clean and winning with a good attitude, humbly. Now for a little incite..... If you will, just a little bitty piece of the rest of the story. On the field for Aledo was a young man who as a junior last year, played little more than a total of part of two halves of two whole ballgames. Not because he was no good, but because the competition was so stiff and Aledo had so many great athletes. This kid has played the game even tho he did not get the time or the glory on the field, but, he did the work, sacrificed his time to do what it took to gain a position on the team. This year as seniors he and another player share the position they both earned because they are both qualified for the position. Now is the conundrum. Last Friday night, when the score had already soared above 60, said player on the defense in the course of play found a Western Hills fumbled ball in front of him. Should he have looked at the ball and started questioning what to do with the ball? Asked himself what do I DO with this? Will this be bullying if I GO with this ball? How will our opponent feel about running back this recovered ball for a touchdown? How will their fans feel if...? Is it salt in their wounds? Training took over and he did what he was suppose to do. Picked it up and ran the ball thirty yards for a defensive touchdown. For a kid with little practical experience but lots of training he DID what he was suppose to do. And even though we felt guilty, we few fans left in the stands cheered his efforts. Because he EARNED the praise. And WE knew the rest of the story. But folks, you have to do the work, make the sacrifice, keep on keeping on, and never, never quit. When the score is stilted and not in your favor, you keep picking em up and putting em down. Just because the horn blows does not mean the game is over. People, the game does not end until we draw our last breath and stand in front of God Almighty!
