For your planning purposes, here is the 2015 Fort Benning Race Series schedule, hot off the press and subject to change: MWR Sports hosts the annual Fort Benning Race Series. We partner with our friends off post to include a number of additional races, listed here.* These competitions are open to the public, and most of them include prizes awarded to top finishers in each division. Participants must complete at least five to receive 250 points towards eligibility for the Awards Ceremony. Register for any of these events at Smith Fitness Center or active. For more information, call 262-993-5234 or 706-527-2275. The Fort Benning Adventure Race is Feb. 28. This five-hour event includes mountain biking, trekking and mystery events. The entry fee is $40 for individuals, $60 for teams of two and $75 for three. Register at Smith Fitness Center or active. The Chesty Puller Half Marathon is March 14. This is not for the faint hearted; the trail is routed deep into the woods near Kelley Hill. This competition includes three divisions: male, female and military teams of three or four. The cost is $40 in advance for the 13.1 mile race, and $50 the day of the event. The Chattahoochee Challenge Half Triathlon is April 25. This 1.2 mile course is 750 meters down and 500 meters back on the Chattahoochee. The 56-mile bike course is a fast ride, with rolling hills through Fort Benning. The run will take you through historic Columbus, with aid stations at every mile mark. At the finish, you’ll find yourself smack-dab in the middle of the annual Bash On the Banks Music Festival. The annual Reverse Sprint Triathlon is May 16. This event includes a 5k run, 20k bike ride and a 550 meter swim. The race starts at 8am at Carey Pool on Main Post. The fee is $45 for individuals or $75 per team. Onsite registration increases by $10. The Chattahoochee Challenge Sprint Triathlon & Duathlon is July 18. The perfect race for beginners. This 500 meter event starts at 7am in Uptown Columbus with a time trial start (one athlete at a time) down river in depths no greater than six feet. Duathletes start with a one-mile run. The 12- mile bike route is flat and travels through historic Columbus. Register at tricolumbusga or active. For more information, call 706-566-2680. The Chattahoochee Challenge Olympic Triathlon is Aug. 15. A great race to gauge your fitness level or transition from a sprint and olympic distance race. The swim is a two loop, 500 meter, down river swim in depths no greater than six feet. Duathletes start with a two-mile run. The bike route is smooth and flat, and the run route will take you along the scenic Phenix City Riverwalk and into historic Columbus. Register at tricolumbusga or active. For more information, call 706-566-2680. The popular Oktoberfest 10K Cross Country Challenge is the highlight of the annual Oktoberfest Celebration held at Fort Benning’s Uchee Creek. This event is held in conjunction with a stroller-friendly 5K Volksmarch. The 10K dirt and clay route winds deep into the woods around Uchee Creek. Watch your step and for wildlife, please! The cost of early registration is $25, $35 on site. The Chattahoochee Challenge Adventure Race is Nov. 21. This four-hour course includes biking, trekking, paddling, navigation and mystery events. The entry fee is $50 for individuals, $65 for teams of two and $80 for three. A kids’ adventure race consisting of only running/trekking will take place at 8am. Register at tricolumbusga or active.
