Forbes has been digging into the question of why the Obamacare website keeps crashing. It’s not just the cronyism that led to companies with hardly any IT experience but lot of lobbyists getting contracts to build the website. And it’s not just the fact that it was a rush job. No, Forbes’ conclusion is that the site keeps crashing because the government was trying to hide the truth from us. For years now, we’ve been promised that this new health care scheme would let us keep the plans we like and the only change is that the cost would drop by about $2500 a year. In reality, many plans are being dropped and replaced with plans that cost thousands of dollars more. It apparently came as a shock to our leaders than when you force insurance companies to cover a lot more things with no preexisting condition exemptions, the cost goes up. Forbes claims that Health and Human Services officials were afraid that if people saw those prices, there’d be an open revolt. So instead of just letting people shop for insurance anonymously, like most websites do, it required people to register before they shop, so it could learn their income and tell them if they qualified for subsidies. Requiring all that information just to sign on creates a huge bottleneck and crashes the system. So let me save Washington a lot of trouble in the future: guys, we know that everything you get involved in costs more. It’s not a state secret. Now, could you please just get out of the way and let us see the damages?
