It lingers in our minds like a soft kiss, desperate to explore the depths of experience. The fire it ignites within us is palpable, an all-consuming presence that pleads the taking. The greater the improbability and its illicit nature, the more we are devoured by its seduction. Forbidden fruit is the mask of impropriety, that which appeals to our dark beginnings. It is the key to our lustful nature, our animalistic, primordial self. We are hunters driven by challenge, and the forbidden becomes more prize than respected. All sense recedes, all choice dissipates, and we dare to taste the sweetest fruit. Forbidden fruit is sweet, no doubt, but the taste once tasted becomes bitter, the ecstasy turns to salt. Once taken the fruit is tainted, no longer the focus of our desire, the prize spoilt. How shallow we can be, lost in our self-absorbed wants. Forbidden is all that glitters, and we are as children stealing a sweet. Forbidden fruit is an entrapment of dire consequence, waiting to unleash its vengeful will. Forbidden fruit is forbidden, for good reason.
