Foreign tourists spent €11.43 billion in Catalonia in the first 9 months of 2013, an 11.9% increase on last year CNA Barcelona (ACN).-International tourism keeps growing in Catalonia. The money that each international visitor spends in Catalonia increased by 4.9% in the first 9 months of 2013 and reached €905 per person on average, according to data released on Monday by the Spanish Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism. Furthermore, between January and September, foreigners visiting Catalonia spent 11.9% more than they did in the same period of 2012. This means that Catalonia has been the main destination in Spain, measured by total spending volume during the first 9 months of the year. It is followed by the Balearic Islands, which registered revenue of €9.59 billion (7.5% more than 2012 figures). Valencia (also called Valencian Country) was the fifth Autonomous Community, with €4.24 billion. On average, each foreign visitor spent €905 in Catalonia between January and September, a 4.9% increase on the figures from the same period in 2012. Each person’s average spending per day reached €119, which represented a 0.5% increase on 2012 figures. Analysing only data from last September, foreigners spent €1.67 billion in Catalonia that month, which represents a 15.5% increase compared with the same month in 2012. The French market was the main factor behind the monthly increase, bringing an additional €35.8 million. In September, each tourist spent an average of €1,031, spending an average of €129 per day. €47.08 billion spent by foreigners in the whole of Spain in the first 9 months of 2013 In the whole of Spain, between January and September, international tourism brought €47.08 billion in revenue, which represents a 7.3% increase compared to 2013 figures. Each tourist spent an average of €1,018 in total, with a daily spend of €113. Regarding the types of accommodation, hotel destinations increased by 7.6%, with total revenue of €30.51 billion, while non-hotel destinations grew by 6.8%, with total revenue of €16.56 billion. Those bringing the greatest amount of revenue in the whole of Spain were the British, German, French, Nordic and Russian markets.
