“Forgetfulness is the root of all evil,” an unknown Egyptian - TopicsExpress

“Forgetfulness is the root of all evil,” an unknown Egyptian monk. “In our relationship with God, one of the main problems is that half the time we just forget about it. We may have the most beautiful and edifying thoughts during our morning prayers, and whole vistas of Christian life may from time to time open out before us, but yet when it actually comes to the practical crunch, it just seems to slip right out of our minds…For all our beautiful meditations on forgiveness, when someone actually treads on our toe, we hit him; and only remember afterwards that we were supposed to turn the other toe over to him too,” Simon Tugwell. Oh how true these words are. How often do we forget to offer grace and mercy to those around us? How often do we spend our quiet time with God and then life happens and we respond not in a godly way? As God’s people we must remember God in our day to day moments. We must build up habits to behave in a Christian way. Think about things you do every day without thought. Tugwell (Prayer: Living with God) uses the following analogy. Driving. You learned the rules of the road when you took driver’s education. You can spontaneously think through situations as you drive and you don’t forget the rules of the road as you drive. You remember. This is the attitude we need to have in Christ. Not to forget. But to make God such an intricate part of our lives that we can spontaneously…without a thought…be able to express the truth of Christ. I cannot even begin to tell you the times I have had the best quiet times ever only to turn around and act as if I had never read God’s Word. Or even the times I have responded to someone’s behavior and have forgotten about their own brokenness and reacted instead of remembering God. And then when it’s all over I look back with shame as I did not practice what I had learned that day! God shows us in His Word how important it is to remember God ALL THE TIME. “You shall therefore impress these words of mine on your heart and on your soul; and you shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontals on your forehead. You shall teach them to your sons, talking of them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road and when you lie down and when you rise up. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates, so that your days and the days of your sons may be multiplied on the land which the Lord swore to your fathers to give them, as long as the heavens remain above the earth. For if you are careful to keep all this commandment which I am commanding you to do, to love the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways and hold fast to Him, (Deuteronomy 11:18-22 NASB) It is not just during our morning quiet time…when we are wrapped up tight in our God time…that we practice God’s Word…it is every day…hour…minute…second of each and every day. We speak it in our conversations. We make it an intimate part of our lives. It should be as vital as the oxygen in the air that we breathe. When we learn to parent our broken hearted children in this way, then they will truly see who this Jesus is that we keep trying to show them! Today…expand your God bubble into your daily life! Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus! Sonya~Responding in faith
