Former Prime Minister Chretien is apparently seeking to rescue - TopicsExpress

Former Prime Minister Chretien is apparently seeking to rescue Justin Trudeau from himself and his mishandling of the response to ISIS with an editorial in tomorrows Globe and Mail. The problem with Chretiens arguments are that they reveal a man stuck in 2003, and remind of us of a government that made decisions to whether deploy forces or not unilaterally without a vote in parliament. Fast forward to present day, Canada received a request from a Nobel Peace Prize winning democratic President of the United States, Barack Obama, to assist in defeating ISIS terrorists. Our present Prime Minister, Stephen Harper, brought the matter before parliament for a vote which was supported by a clear majority of parliamentarians as well as many respected Liberal elder statesmen. While I understand that Chretien is trying to throw a lifeline, its not 2003 and his argument doesnt excuse Justin Trudeaus poorly managed and flippant response to a serious international crisis. Attached is the statement made by the U.S. reflecting President Obamas appreciation of Canadas commitment, as a Canadian I was proud when I read it. canada.usembassy.gov/news-events/2014-news-and-events/october-2014/7-october-2014-statement-by-the-press-secretary-on-the-canadian-decision-to-authorize-military-force-against-isil.html
