Former Tourism and Arts Minister Sylvia Masebo is living in fear - TopicsExpress

Former Tourism and Arts Minister Sylvia Masebo is living in fear of violent attack by hired Patriotic Front (PF) cadres. Masebo, who was sacked by President Michael Sata recently, has become one of the latest targets to be named by the ruling party militia that has been assigned to eliminate opposing and critical voices of the government and Sata in particular. According to confidential sources from Masebo’s inner circle, the former cabinet minister is fearful that her safety and life are at stake. “The problem started after she implicated President Sata in her submission to the tribunal that was constituted to probe her alleged misconduct on the ZAWA transaction. She went on further to say things that she should not have said, and this led to her sacking by the president because she was being truthful and it was done to exonerate herself in truthfulness,” the source said. The source said Masebo was literally locked up in her Ibex Hill residence where visitors and other strangers had to undergo a comprehensive scrutiny before gaining access to her. The source said Masebo was very disappointed with President Sata and the entire Patriotic Front (PF) government, which she said had used her and dumped her like a mopping cloth. The source said Masebo was infuriated with the PF and that she was making arrangements to announce her resignation from the ruling party. “You see, she hasn’t been feeling well of late and this has been compounded by the latest developments in the party and government. She wants to quit the PF and just to have nothing to do with the party because she is among the latest people that have realized they were riding on a very wrong ticket. We await to see the reaction of Senior Chieftainess Nkomeshya Mukamambo II, because the Chieftainess rose to her position because of Masebo, benefiting from the disputes they had with (former President) Rupiah Banda,” the source said. Recently, Sata fired Masebo after she adduced incriminating evidence against the president during the tribunal that was constituted to probe Masebo as Tourism Minister involving alleged corruption and other professional misconduct in wildlife management at the Zambia Wildlife Management Authority (ZAWA). The source said Masebo was holding very critical and sensitive information against Sata, Vice President Guy Scott, and several other senior government officials who were connected to corruption and awarding of tenders in ZAWA. “Wildlife management in Zambia is not controlled by local people. It is the foreigners who do it and Guy Scott has both hands in all this. Sylvia Masebo is all aware of this and she has been infuriated. What do you expect from such a wounded person that feels she was being untreated fairly,” the source said. The source said Masebo was just waiting for the time when the PF would declare her position in the national executive committee vacant to announce her future in the ruling party politics.
