Former minister JC Diwakar Reddys kin owner of Ill-fated Volvo... HYDERABAD/BANGALORE: The ill-fated bus, though operated by Jabbar Travels, was registered in the name of Diwakar Road Lines owned by family members of former minister JC Diwakar Reddy. According to a press release issued by officials of the AP transport department, on the sidelines of transport minister Botsa Satyanarayanas visit to Commissionerate, the vehicle, AP 02 TA 0963, is registered in the name of JC Uma Reddy, Anantapur. The bus is said to be on lease with Shakeel Ahmed of M/S Jabbar Travels, Bangalore. The vehicle is currently on the rolls of RTO, Bangalore since October 2011, the press note said. Surprisingly, Jabbar Travels has been plying the Bangalore-Hyderabad bus with an Andhra Pradesh registration. When a request was made by Jabbar Travels for transfer of vehicle to another state, local RTA officials issued a NoC to the operator. The operator is given 12 months time to get it registered with another state but in this case Jabbar Travels hadnt done it, Satyanarayana said. Officials said, along with Jabbar Travels, JC Uma Reddy will be equally responsible in the incident since the vehicle continues to be on her name. There was chaos at the booking office of Jabbar Travels near Kalasipalyam bus stand in the early hours of Wednesday. Anxious relatives and friends of those on the bus to Hyderabad turned up with queries aplenty. There was confusion over the list of passengers. Office staff made repeated attempts to reach the mobile numbers of passengers in their records. While some calls went unattended, some were received by those whod booked tickets for their relatives. Nagaraj K, a resident of Kalasipalya and friend of Venkatesh, a victim, said he rushed to the travel operators office when he saw the news flash on TV. Initially the office was closed. When it opened, it was of no help either. The staff were completely in the dark, he said. By forenoon, the crowd started swelling. Distraught family members realized they wouldnt get much information from the office and therefore left for the accident spot. Jameel Jabbar, one of the owners of Jabbar Travels, said theyre co-operating with police at the accident spot. As per the list in the office, there were 36 passengers when it left from here at 10.30pm. Some more boarded en route, he said. Azmal Pasha, office-bearer of the agency, said, Four men, including a manager and an accountant, have gone to the accident site. Hyderabad police have directed us to hand over bus documents, including fitness certificate and permit copy. Jameel brushed aside allegations that the fitness certificate of the vehicle had lapsed.
