Fortune opened in July 1974 in the Otago Cine Club 105 seat - TopicsExpress

Fortune opened in July 1974 in the Otago Cine Club 105 seat theatrette at the back of the Atheneum building in the Octagon, a few doors up from the Regent. The Fortune was established by Murray Hutchinson, Alex Gilchrist, Huntly Eliott and Dr David Carnegie. The inaugural season announced for 1974 by the founding directors might not have seemed one which would inspire great confidence among the citys conservative audience that the company would still be in existence thirty years later. The season was to open with a little known English fringe play (Blue Comedy), had two new New Zealand plays (The Two Tigers and Well Hung), a revival of Luv, a violent new Australian play (The Removalists) and two plays on explicitly gay themes (The Killing of Sister George and Fortune and Mens Eyes). As it turned out, Well Hung had to wait till the following year for production and The Removalists until 1982. The programme mix was modified to include the royalist anthology, The Hollow Crown, and two old faithfuls, Night Must Fall and Charleys Aunt. (Excerpt thanks to Alister McDonald) The image attached is a production shot from Blue Comedy. Any guesses as who these actors might be?
