Found this on LA times. Note Sierra Madre is noted. Queen Elizabeth II’s 1983 California visit Posted By: Scott Harrison Posted On: 7:32 p.m. | June 2, 2012 During an official state visit from Feb. 26 and March 6, 1983, Queen Elizabeth II toured the United States’ West Coast. In a Feb. 27, 1983, Queen Elizabeth II address to the Los Angeles City Council, she thanked Americans for their support during the 1982 Falkland Islands war. A Times story the next morning also reported: The queen lightheartedly reminded Los Angeles residents that her northward journey from San Diego this weekend paralleled a similar trip made 400 years ago by Sir Francis Drake “who (unsuccessfully) claimed this territory as Nova Albion for the first Queen Elizabeth and for the queen’s successors forever.” “I am happy, though, to give you an immediate assurance, Mr. Mayor, that I have not come here to press the claim.” During this visit, Queen Elizabeth II stopped in San Diego, Palm Springs, Los Angeles, Sierra Madre, Duarte, Santa Barbara, San Francisco, Sacramento, Stanford, Palo Alto, Yosemite and Seattle. Los Angeles Times photographers covered many of the queen’s stops. Staff photographer George Rose covered the entire West Coast visit.
