Fourteen years ago I got off a bus (just like that) in search of a job. I did not know what I was walking into, but I took the chance! Once I walked into the building I met the most wonderful, virtuous woman I’ve ever known. Her name was Andrea Sharpoff, and she became my friend. She took me under her wings, and she loved my family! She believed in me like no other woman did. She encouraged me to go back to school saying, “Carmen, you were born to teach.” So I went back to school, first earning my AS, BS, and MS. Finally, I became a teacher, and she was there each step of the way. She remembered my children’s birthdays. She sent them cards on special occasions, including graduations. She prayed for me, and placed my prays in the walls of Jerusalem. She helped heal my wounds and my broken heart. I was not ashamed to say that I loved her madly. She loved me madly too. She took nothing, but gave everything. The last time I saw her was the summer of 2012, they were giving her a hard time at work and I promised her that I would take care of her. She would be safe in my classroom and she could rest while she was in my classroom. At the end of Auguts 2012 Andrea and I hugged, the last thing we said to each other was “I love you Andrea. I love you more Carmen.” She died this week! She is resting now! I miss her more than it is possible to love and miss someone that is not family, but I do. I wrote a poem for her (Angel) in 2003, I would read it for her again at her memorial. I am asking the angels to tell Andrea Sharpoff that I grieve for her, my heart hurt for her, I wanted her to stay with me. Rest in peace my friend and love Andrea Sharpoff. I am crying for her, cause I wanted her to stay with me! https://youtube/watch?v=NqqOZbMWesI
