Franklin Perez, 2014 Libertarian Candidate for the Florida State House of Representatives (District 28), expresses disgust and anger over the SWAT Team blowing a hole in a 2-year olds chest as explained in the salon/2014/06/24/a_swat_team_blew_a_hole_in_my_2_year_old_son hyperlink. This is idicative of the militarization of our nations police force as indicated in the https://youtube/watch?v=fE1f8l175N0 hyperlink. Police forces are increasingly being armed with heavy weaponry designed for war, according to the American Civil Liberties Union. The organization released a report Tuesday detailing the increasingly militarized weaponry and tactics being used by law enforcement agencies across the country. Central to the trend is the deployment of heavily armed SWAT teams to non-violent situations, mainly drug searches of minority individuals and families. RTs Manila Chan discusses the issue with Elizabeth Beavers of the Friends Committee on National Legislation. One Possible Solution: Creation of Civilian Review Boards that have the full powers to independently investigate, discipline, and terminate problem police officers. Current Civilian Review Boards have no real power. All they can do is make recommendations; thus, there is, to an extremely large extent, no accountability by police officers because police departments police themselves. Franklin Perez, 2014 Libertarian Candidate for the Florida State House of Representatives (District 28), advocates for a Law Enforcement Accountability Act to deal with Police Abuse and Harassment which would require the formation of Civilian Review Boards to oversee State, County, and City police departments with the full power to independently investigate, discipline, and terminate problem police officers.
