Fred Cortes and Mila del Sol in Vicente Salumbides and Manuel Condes Ibong Adarna (1941). Ibong Adarna thrilled moviegoers with an exhibition of what Filipino ingenuity could achieve with relatively meager resources. For the first time, a Filipino movie used matte shots and background projections without synchronous motors. The scene of the bird bursting into full plumage was colored frame by frame. Ibong Adarna is one of tge few pre-WWII Filipino films to have survived. Ibong Adarna pioneered the successful translation of a Filipino literary classic into film.
