Freedom is not free, said James Hetfield last night as #Metallica closed their set at @HBO #TheConcertForValor, during which Master Sergeant Cedric King, vets and other wounded warriors were honored by @michelleobama, @oprah...and hundreds of thousands of people. #CedricKing served in Iraq and Afghanistan. On his last deployment in 2012, he was wounded when he stepped on an IED. His injuries were so severe that Drs. had to put him into a medically induced coma. They took his legs. 2 years later, he completed a Half Ironman: 70.3 miles (swimming, biking and running). Possibilities in life are what you create. What you choose to see. During the 26 mile run, his prosthetic legs broke. He had to stop and get them repaired. He lost time, but finished the race in 10 hours...as event organizers were starting to clean up. He was among the last ten of more than 50,000 people who tackled the race. He kissed the finish line. I learned that I could be doggedly persistent about something that I want in life.
