Friday July 25 This was a strenuous but good day at Mayo. No chemo but a good meeting with the Dr. Colon the oncologist. There was a blood test after some confusion about whether it was necessary. Also confusion about what time our appointment was supposed to be. Our itinerary was an hour later than what the nurse had. It was too late for the doctor to have the results. Batina’s children were on a conference phone in our talk with Dr. Colon. They all participated in working out what we all hope will be the best surgery Batina can have. There are cancer cells resisting the chemo. I asked if they can try other treatments and Dr. Colon said they will consider this. After many questions from all of us, Dr. Colon suggested options that will have to be discussed with the surgeon. 1. Begin with robotic surgery. This is the least invasive and has the quickest recovery. 2. If the surgeon finds he can’t remove as much of the cancer as he would like he’ll have to use his scalpel and remove what he can. Tues. July 29 Kind Dr. Robertson, surgeon, called from the boat he was cruising on or about to cruise on to tell us he understand the concerns of Batina and her family and will do a robotic surgery and if necessary with continue with scalpel. The Robot was busy on Aug. 6, but was not scheduled for the seventh. Please set your prayer circles for Aug 7th that all goes well and easy for Batina and Dr. Robertson as well as the Robot. As of today Batina has two daughters and four grandchildren with us. Her three sons and two more grandchildren will arrive for a pre-surgery gathering of prayer and party. For a person whose cancer count kept going down and whose tumors kept shrinking, having this turn was a shock. Since the surgery discussion began Batina has gotten stronger and more positive about the outcome. We are calling on those from all spheres to aide in her healing on all levels.
