Friday, June 6, 2014 Mila spent two nights with us and played with Caroline nonstop. They are so cute together, but hell on heels! This afternoon I took Mila home and got to spend some time with Richmond. Joanna and Luana, calendars in tow, plotted out the next two weeks of Richmonds rehab since most if his appointments are scattered and not back to back. Luana needs to get back on track with work, so Gene and I will be helping out with transporting and being on hand for Richmond and Mila. Richmond is doing well. He struggles with finding the right words and even laughs sometimes when he knows that he is using the wrong one. Yesterday, for instance, I told him that Mila would not go to sleep because she claimed that she doesnt sleep (Joanna is convinced that she really doesnt). Richmond said that after reading a book to her, he closes her door and turns on the butter knife. When I asked him about using a butter knife, he laughed and said that surely I knew that he had a brain injury! The good news is that he remembered reading to her, but if I ask him what he had for lunch, he could say that he ate lunch but might not remember what he ate. His short term memory is not great, but we pray that that will get better over time. The experts tell us that it will. Slowly but surely he is getting better. Tomorrow marks the ninth week since his injury. He still asks about what happened, because that part of his memory is obliterated. Today we went through the whole story again and he was apologetic about causing everyone so much trouble. He never believes me when I tell him that his Papa and I were at the hospital every day. He always wants to know what was going on. What did we do all day? When he asks those questions, as he does a lot, I usually say that we visited with his friends and ours and we went into his room and saw him. Today I told him that we prayed all the time and that there were people all over the world( literally) who were doing the same thing. He just said, wow!. Tomorrow and the day after that and the day after that and forever I will tell him about the people who prayed without ceasing for him. One day he will remember. Peace. Amen!
