Her 2008 debut ‘Please’ (Hyperdub), announced a forward thinking, highly melodic, twisted take on UK underground dance music. After further singles for Planet Mu and Hyperdub, she went on to release one of the best albums of 2010 ‘Contact, Love, Want, Have’, receiving glowing reviews from The Guardian, BBC, NME, FACT, Resident Advisor, Pitchfork among many more. Her remix projects have included Interpol, Caribou, Cubic Zirconia and DJ Mujava. Equally accomplished is Ikonika the DJ. Her technical proficiency has taken her to bookings at clubs and festivals all across the world. Her live and studio sets journey from classic House and Techno, to RnB bangers, to the freshest sounds of the underground. Her talent was recognized by DJ Mag with nominations for ‘Best Breakthrough DJ’ of 2009 and ‘Best DJ’ of 2010, in their ‘Best Of British’ awards. Ikonikas latest full-length on Hyperdub ‘Aerotropolis’ (2013) is a testament to her versatility as a producer and composer. Ikonika also runs the label Hum + Buzz with Optimum (Night Slugs/Planet Mu). As well as releasing singles from the owners, it focuses on introducing bright new talent. ABOUT NATASHA KMETO Natasha Kmeto is a Portland-based singer and electronic producer who turns heads everywhere she goes. Armed with a taut dance floor sensibility and flutteringly sensuous voice, she exudes the kind of beauty that can only come from confidence. Her tracks are sleek and energetic affairs, straddling the line between dance, pop, and RnB, percussively intriguing compositions that slide easily into the ear but aren’t so easily forgotten. Her beauty, energy, and talent coalesce into a truly visceral live show, moving both to the partygoer and the thinking person alike. Wherever her music goes, heavy breathing will follow. Born into a musical family in California, Natasha began to develop her talents as an artist from a young age. It wasn’t until almost two decades later, on the verge of becoming a career session musician, that she grabbed the wheel and broke out in a direction that truly inspired her. Her arrival in Portland marked a big step towards new things. The past several years as seen her growth quicken, especially after signing with hometown label Dropping Gems. The string of releases that have followed showcase Natasha in her most self-realized form, in matters of love, independence, and outlook on life. Natasha has a long list of notable live performances under her belt, including gigs at Coachella, Bumbershoot, MusicFestNW, Symbiosis, SXSW, Low End Theory (LA and SF) and Decibel Festival. She has shared the stage with a number of talented artists as well, including Squarepusher, Emancipator, Kid Cudi, Plaid, Gold Panda, Dam Funk, Shlohmo, Shigeto, and Morcheeba, just to name a few. Her radio experience includes live performances on Boiler Room and KEXP, and her tracks have been played by numerous noteworthy DJs including Mary Anne Hobbes. Natasha released her LP Crisis on June 18th, 2013 on Dropping Gems to much fanfare. ABOUT KID SMPL Kid Smpl is the current alias of 23-year-old Seattle producer and 2013 RBMA alum Joey Butler. A veteran of stage and studio, Butler has been busy developing a style of physical and affecting bass music that continues to evolve with each release. Butler released his debut album ‘Skylight’ in November 2012, which emphasized his ethereal, atmospheric inclinations. The album evokes the introspection of a far-flung space colonys forest terrarium, late into the evening, alone or with close company. He followed it with the ‘Armour’ EP in July 2013, which further articulates the hazy future vision he has been praised for on numerous EPs, compilation tracks, and remixes released to date. ‘Armour’ was more decisive in nature than ‘Skylight,’ the sound of a young producer growing more confident and clear about the type of music he wanted to create. Newer releases find Kid Smpl exploring the physical impact of his sound, a thrilling new facet for his already complex sonic palate. ABOUT DJAO Seattle native DJAO, aka Alex Osuch, has been a DJ for over a decade, but recent years have seen him shift focus towards his work as a producer. After joining up with Dropping Gems, Alex began to produce in earnest, and his live performances have since evolved on a nearly show-by-show basis. His music covers a wide swath of the electronic spectrum, with no ultimate plan to settle on any single style. Instead it exemplifies the progressive tradition of mixing elements from different disciplines into a cohesive whole, in service to a central harmonic vision. Among his influences are hip hop, metal, noise, fusion jazz, soul, and the ever-evolving spectrum of future music. Armed with this array of named and unnamable musical idioms, Alex seeks out a hazy vision of natural environments as they might have existed in ancient times, could exist on other planets, and as they may yet exist here, on Earth, deep into the future. ABOUT SLOW YEAR Gracefully dawdling electronic music thats halod with tender, melancholic synth auroras and marbled with erratic, Burial-esque percussion. - Dave Segal, The Stranger
