Friday, October 03, 2014 - Peshawar—The Peshawar University campus turned into a battlefield over slogan of “Go Nawaz Go” on Thursday when activists of N-League and PTI exchanged firing with each other. As a result of the exchange of firing, a student identified as Shahab received injuries. Officials said the incident happened when PTI activists chanted slogans of “Go Nawaz Go” in the campus which provoked N-League supporter students. As the barbs flew from the heated exchanges of arguments between the rival students groups, both side activists opened fire on each other and as a result a student got injuries. Varsity authorities raided hostel rooms to crack down culprits of the incident. Islamabad: Central Information Secretary PTI, Dr Shireen Mazari, condemned what she called the “Gullu Butt mindset” that pervades the Sharif clan and trickles down to PMLN office bearers and supporters. In a statement issued here on Thursday Shireen Mazari said it was condemnable that yet another Butt took to beating up poor Pakistani citizens simply because they exercised their democratic right to express their views peacefully by chanting “Go Nawaz Go” in Wazirabad, on Wednesday 1st October. But, Mazari added, what was shocking was to see Maryam Nawaz not only condone but recommend violence on the part of PMLN in a tweet where she suggested a “tit for tat response” to people chanting Go Nawaz Go! Unfortunately Ms Maryam Nawaz clearly does not understand that beating up people for raising verbal slogans is not “tit for tat” & her statement that “PTI won’t find a place to hide. Saw trailer in Wazirabad today” is a direct instigation to violence” which is a punishable offence under the law. She should know that PTI will hold her responsible for any “Gullu Butt-type attacks on PTI workers or ordinary citizens raising the slogan of “Go Nawaz Go”. Mazari asked in what capacity Maryam Nawaz was speaking on behalf of PMLN, this was yet another reflection of the undemocratic, imperial mindset of the Sharifs who treat Pakistan as their fiefdom and the citizens as their “subjects”. Mazari said the Sharifs should learn tolerance and imbibe democratic norms. She also advised they get used to hearing “Go Nawaz Go” as it is now resounding across Pakistan and internationally and will be haunting the Sharifs wherever they are.—Online
