(CAC) on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, September 13-15 for CAC Garden Days at a community garden in your neighborhood. Map of events: arcgis/home/webmap/viewer.html?webmap=da125a13e5724169b1463297cad7ffc4&extent=-89.8086,42.932,-88.9654,43.238 CAC Garden Days celebrates community and food pantry gardens and the benefits they bring to the neighborhoods around them, with an eye to increasing public awareness of, support for, and involvement in gardens. Thirteen community gardens located in and around the City of Madison will be hosting an ‘open-house’ of activities and workshops throughout the weekend. Friends and neighbors are encouraged to visit, support, and learn more about how community gardens are a vibrant asset to their neighborhood. Community, youth, and food pantry gardens serve as grassroots training grounds where youth, families and neighbors gain leadership skills and build strong, diverse, and interdependent communities while growing fresh fruits and vegetables for their schools, households, or local food pantries. CAC has developed and coordinated community gardens and supported youth gardening in Dane County for the past 30 years. There are now over 50 community gardens in Dane County serving over 2000 households. CAC began partnering with food pantry gardens in 2000 in an effort to increase the amount of fresh, nutritious produce available to food pantries. Currently, there are over 30 food pantry gardens in the Madison area that collectively produced and donated over 140,000 pounds of fresh vegetables in 2012.
