Friday night at Valentine, the gallery in Ridgewood, Queens, Kyle and I attended the opening of a very moving exhibit, “Woody Guthrie’s Wardy Forty,” also the title of an accompanying book by photographer and curator of twentieth century ruins Philip Buehler, shown here with Nora Guthrie, the folksingers daughter who was also on hand for the opening. The exhibit and book document Woodys decline from Huntingtons Chorea, the incurable illness that shadowed the last decades of his life. Buehler discovered Woodys records at Greystone Psychiatric Hospital in NJ, and with cooperation from Nora, hes assembled an extremely valuable record of this sad period of the singers life.
