Friday nights ratings (scan towards bottom) and observations: -People seem to like employment based reality shows on Friday nights. CBS Undercover Boss was up 38% over last week and ABCs Shark Tank was up 12% over last week. -Newsmagazine shows continue to have their place on Fridays as well. These are down quite a bit from their heyday in the late 90s and early 2000s. Dateline will be subbing for the cancelled Ironsides in the coming weeks. -Fridays also are a fine time to repeat weekday shows in an effort to build an audience for underperforming shows (not Sleepy Hollow, Fox just wants to get even more eyes on a show that will be back in Fall 2014). The MJF Show (which will be around until May) and Sean Saves the World (which may not) actually do well enough in repeats when you consider how poorly they both do in their usual time spots. MJF from a 1.2 new to a 0.8 repeat and Sean from a 1.1 new to a .7 repeat. -Of the 4 original scripted shows. CBSs dramas Hawaii Five-O and Blue Bloods were down by single digits and ABCs comedies Last Man Standing and Neighbors were both up by single digit percentages. -I dont really follow the insufferable Chef Ramseys ratings for his various shows but a 1.2 strikes me as a little low for the new MasterChef Junior. On The CW Americas Next Top Model finished off its summer season here in early fall and has been renewed for a 21st cycle probably again during the summer/fall of 2014. -Of the 10 reality shows (there are about 70 scripted shows) on broadcast TV presently 4 have found a home here on Fridays. -Next week NBCs stable Friday performer Grimm returns and is followed by the new series Dracula (sigh, more vampires). It will be interesting to see what effect these have on the ratings of Hawaii Five-O and Blue Bloods if any. I will go on record as saying I dont see much coming of Draculas ratings and it will probably just air its 10 or so episodes. NBC already has, believe it or not, a pirate series named Crossroads waiting in the wings as a mid-season replacement. As Dracula is a foreign (UK) co-production where the financing is shared how it does overseas may help determine its fate. It may be cheap for NBC like Hannibal and therefore they may tolerate lower ratings.
