Friday, we were informed by the Mississippi Department of Corrections that one of the kids who killed my son has somehow gotten his sentence overturned and is going to walk free, Aug. 2. We were never notified of any hearings that were going on with this case, and we have signed up to be notified of all hearings, transfers, etc, according to the forms that we filled out to be notified. Somehow, I feel that they kept us in the dark regarding this, so apparently that wed not mount any opposition to it, as we did when Brister came up for parole a couple years ago. Were totally devastated that wed not been kept informed. We were notified when Bristers case came up, and we got a lot of letters sent in to the Parole board to oppose. I guess the DAs office is really on the side of the Criminals, instead of the victims. Not the way that I would have thought they should be. Were going to be talking to the AGs office on Monday, to find out why they didnt call us, talking to the DAs office to find out why we werent notified. This is just wrong. Keep us in your prayers for the outcome of this. The US Supreme court is somehow involved as well, Im assuming because of Miller v Alabama. Anderson, the inmate thats going to be released, was in the shop with Paul was shot, and apparently he wasnt the one who fired the fatal bullet, but he was there. He was 17 at the time, and the driver, Brister was 16. The other shooter was 19, and according to all indications, hes not affected by the ruling by the Supreme Court. Instead of vacating his sentence and giving him opportunity for parole, as they did with Brister, Andersons case was overturned, and he was given 10 years, which hes served the full time. Hes scheduled to be released Aug. 2. Hell be under supervision for 3 years, according to the DOC person we talked to on Friday. How convenient for them to give us a call at 4:15 on Friday, so theyd be off on the weekend, and were not able to contact anyone until Monday. Meanwhile, were in a turmoil all weekend. This is whats on my mind.... Yall have a goodern.... Im gonna have a goodern .... Taking the grandsons back to Silver Dollar City today... . then well head back to Washington, and VBS next week.
