Friends and comrades, I was long asked to address this issue with you but I dismissed it, thinking that it was just a passing thing. But this morning I received a message from Nonceba raising the same issue and I am compelled to finally raise it with you. Noncebas message reads: ...So I went to exclusive books in Claremont to get a few copies of your book to take with me to Kimberly thia weekend. When I got there they told me they had 5 copies but 3 were stolen so they only had 2 left. Even though I wanted 3 copies, I figured I would buy the two, & take my copy as well to give to my cousins. When we get to the book shelve where the 2 copies were supposed to be, it turns out those two copies have also been stolen. So I get some at OR Tambo on route to Kimberly. The exclusive books at OR Tambo tell me the same thing. The two copies they had have been stolen & they are now having to order more... Unfortunately, it is not the first time that this is happening. Exclusive Books Sandton City and Eastgate Mall have personally called me and asked me to please address the issue of the consistent theft of MEMOIRS OF A BORN FREE: REFLECTIONS ON THE RAINBOW NATION from their shelves. I am pleading with you, my people, to please refrain from stealing the book from shops. A number of people who didnt have enough money to buy the book have approached me personally and Ive ensured, where possible, that they get it. Nationalisation must only be done to key sectors of the economy. The book is not a key sector of the economy, my people. Let us stop this witchcraft.
