Friends, as you go to the polls in Florida this week and next and you look at your choices of Governor. Please remember, though i could not fund myself to get on the ballot, I would still make a MUCH BETTER Governor than any of the other people on the ballot. I mean, really. Look at Scott and Crist, if nothing else I could not do much worse. In case I have piqued your interest, let me tell you my main goal of my term in office would be to fix that screwed up education system that was created over teh last dozen years. We need to put the put the power to teach our students back into the hands of people who actually KNOW what they are doing - the teachers. We need to curb pointless spending in schools and start funding the lower achieving school so their students are setting the bar, not trying to get over it. We need to look at these School Boards and see if they are running efficiently holding their responsibility over ther stewardship seriously. We need to increase teaching salaries so we attract more good teachers to this cause and retain the ones we have to stay. But at the same time we need to find incentives for teachers to keep moving forward in their teachings skills and styles. So in addition to REASONABLE wage increases, we will need to set a pay level increase based on in field training teachers take. Much like we see in the northern states. Charter Schools and private schools are great resources for kids to have options for. However, to receive state money they will have to pass and show improvement on what ever the state mandated testing is. And as to that, we need to get the testing companies out of our schools and having them dictate what kids need to learn. We need to form a state wide council of teachers of all subjects and have them come up with a testing strategy that ensures all students are getting the educations they need, not the one that prometric wants them to have, We also have to look at colleges and make sure that they are both affordable AND relevant to what students need. We need to look at the overall system of education in Florida and make sure that students are either being prepared to be successful in college or being prepared for a career post high school. Increasing funding into Magnet schools, internship and apprentice programs, and trade schools will help those kids fro whom college is not a priority or a desire. To great a strong future foundation for our state requires us to reinforce the education system so we have the people educated to lure businesses into the state. I will now answer questions...
