OSOGBO Let’s dance, let’s be merry Let’s rock and roll Like the Osun of Osogbo, The romantic world of O’dua Where the worship started ago In age-old ritual and rites An entrance to the snake on the rail Whose vomit enriches again To feed a blessed heritage In the foundation of barter Home to treasured antiques Enclave of preserved, unmixed values House to traditional conservatism And the land of many tributaries The wedge of the ancient world The world’s heritage therein A colossus stands in beauty In inviting and overseeing The nurturing of the trees planted And in the preservation of the old values Now the Old World is becoming new The power grid junction and the mill Local and modern industries expanding For the production of a better goods In this rising land we treasure A Conglomeration of books and houses And a Combination of all faiths Mushrooming of rooms and spaces From labouring day and night In the “mad rush” for expansion OWERRI On the focus the spears struck All at once from all fronts Piercing through the soil All in a bid the soul to explore And all the body to open Lovable concentration of heads Prepared to struggle anywhere In a bid the produce to monopolize Of big trees, branches and leaves Excelling and winning for profits.
