Friends, to improve your speaking ability (fluency), you should - TopicsExpress

Friends, to improve your speaking ability (fluency), you should accustom to some frequently used words. Especially verbs, adjectives and adverbs are the most important things. If you want to speak English fluently, excellent vocabulary is not necessary. If you have simple vocabulary, that can be enough. But your simple vocabulary consists of “frequently used words”. For some words, knowing the meaning is sufficient. But for some other words, in addition to the meaning, usage is the most important thing. So friends, let us have a plan. Study 10 to 20 words by using your dictionary daily. So you can know and remember the meanings of many words. Here in our group, daily I say the usages of 3 or 4 words daily, for those words whose usage is more important than its meaning. Am I going to introduce new words? No. I’m going to tell you about some words, those which you already knew. If you already know, then why to teach you those words again? Is it necessary? Yes it is extremely necessary. See these words. “In, into, at, on, upon, over, almost, have, whom, whose, in between, above etc”. In this way, there are many “frequently used words”. Each word has more than 10 meanings and usages. But many of us don’t know the meanings and usages of these simple words. The word “have” possesses more than 30 meanings and usages. How many of us knew this? If you know the meanings and usages of “frequently used words”, you can do wonders. If you learn 50,000 words (which are rarely used) and their meanings, but if you don’t know the correct usage, your English will be full of mistakes and blunders. But if you know only 2000 words (which are regularly used), their meanings and their correct usage, you can give a successful interview. You can talk to all the British people without grammatical mistakes... Everybody will be surprised. Friends, Remember 1 thing: In competitive exams & entrance exams, usually, comprehension passages, synonyms, antonyms, filling the blanks etc are available. To answer well in all these sections and to get good marks, you need a very big word power (vocabulary). But if you want to speak English fluently, “simple word power” is sufficient. According to some experts 2000 words are enough to speak English fluently. But they must be “frequently used words”. Friends, we should have a plan. We should do 2 things. 1) Daily I will tell and explain you the correct and complete usages of 3 or 4 frequently used words. 2) On the other side, as usually, prepare 10 to 20 words from your dictionary. If we follow these 2 ways, you can be very strong in word power as well as in fluency.
