Friends, well-wisher, etc.: I am a fervent and passionate defender of the oppressed –and I am always willing to lay down my life in the defense and promotion of equal rights, and justice for all without distinction to race, ethnicity, gender, class, religious affiliation, etc. I sincerely and genuinely believe in gender equality and in the empowerment of women in Africa where I believe that I am a debtor to the African society -especially Nigeria where I was born and raised before immigrating out of the African continent. I insist that women should be allowed to fully participate in the politics and governance of all African countries –especially Nigeria –indeed, a cause I have championed through writing and participation in the Nigerian pro-democracy movement during military dictatorship. Fortunately, Africa -a purely culturally conservative continent, is now blessed with three female Presidents –in Malawi ( voanews/content/butty-liberia-malawi-banda-visits-sirleaf-piah-30april12-149451655/370297.html) and Liberia ( atlantablackstar/2014/03/03/cars-female-president-inspired-another-female-leader-liberias-ellen-sirleaf/ ) -and of course, you know that conservative Muslim countries have also elected women Prime Ministers: Benazir Bhutto of Pakistan ( infoplease/ipa/A0886365.html ) and Sheikh Hasina of Banglades ( pmo.gov.bd/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=137&Itemid=351 ). What is remaining is for America, the champion and beacon of democracy and human rights, to elect her first female President, possibly in 2017 –my choice is Hillary Clinton, a woman of grace, high IQ, etc. Men should stop pretending and professing their love for women as wives, daughters, girlfriends, sisters, lovers and mothers and yet deny them equal opportunity on the basis of their gender –it does not make any sense at all. This is food for thought for all.
