From A HISTORY OF THE EAST THREE NOTCH SCHOOL - The November 5, 1914 edition of the Andalusia Standard reported: Cornerstone to be laid next Monday afternoon. The pastors of the Presbyterian, Baptist, and Methodist churches will make short talks. The Tuesday November 10, 1914 edition of the Andalusia Star reported on the front page:LAYING OF CORNERSTONE. We are truly glad to note the interest which the good people of Andalusia are manifesting in our public school. Be is said to the honor of our efficient Board of Trustees that they are having a magnificent up-to-date school building erected, the cornerstone of which was laid yesterday afternoon (November 9) with impressive ceremonies largely attended by our people notwithstanding the inclemency of the weather. The exercises were opened with the song, America, by the school. ...The school then joined in singing Alabama....The school then sang Columbia, the Gen of the Ocean and Professor L.E. Brown deposited a telephone directory, a daily state paper, the two local papers, the names of fourteen teachers, (names of)415 students, (names of )the Board of Trustees, and some coins of the realm...followed by the benediction. DONT WE NEED TO BE OPENING THE CORNERSTONE ON NOVEMBER 9 - 100 YEARS LATER? The items contained therein could be put on permanent display at city hall. Please share this.
