From Alices Road Trip ... Alice tried to reach for one of the ice cream sandwiches, but I slammed the freezer door shut, almost trapping her fingers. Trust me, at this point, if Id succeeded, Id have continued kicking the door of the fridge til something broke. “Hey,” Alice grabbed her fingers and frowned at me. “Alice!” I shouted. “What?” “Alice …” A bit softer. “What?” My breaths were short and shallow. “Get in the car, girl. Now.” Alice is pretty oblivious, most of the time. She just nodded with a big smile on her face and got in on the passenger side while I stood outside and fumed. I kicked the nearest tire and let out a stream of words my late momma woulda washed my mouth out for, even at twenty-five. This was about the closest I ever done got to killing Alice, including that time she sawed the heels and platforms off my new shoes cause she was afraid I might fall off them and hurt myself. Why was I doing this shit? No amount of money was worth this. Dead movie stars, motel fires, ice cream obsessions, a freaking Inuit goddess, and now a flat tire … with no jack!
