From Cathy Feingold, AFL-CIO Wed, Mar 12, 2014 10:08 AM CDT Adrian, Its been more than a year since 1,134 Bangladeshi workers died in a factory collapse-one of the worst workplace tragedies ever. Right after the collapse, Bangladeshi workers began building a global movement to make sure it never happened again. They made a simple demand of corporations producing garments in Bangladesh: sign the Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh. Some corporations resisted, but 150 ended up signing, including Adidas, H&M and American Eagle. But a few corporations are still holding out, including VF Corporation. VF Corporation owns high-profile brands such as The North Face, Timberland and JanSport, but its siding with notorious workers rights violator Walmart and a few other bad-actor companies to undermine the accord. [ act.aflcio.org/c/18/p/dia/action3/common/public/?action_KEY=8090]* Sign the petition to tell VF Corporation to ensure North Face factories arent death traps by adding its name to the Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh* [ act.aflcio.org/c/18/p/dia/action3/common/public/? action_KEY=8090 ]*.* VF Corporation wants nothing more than to maintain the status quo when it comes to worker safety at factories where its apparel is produced. At every turn, the company has opposed and sought to undermine the accord, which would give workers a voice in addressing deadly working conditions. The company has even teamed up with Walmart to unveil a laughable, corporate-controlled safety scheme to get out of signing the accord. Their scheme would allow companies to control factory inspections, instead of having them conducted by independent organizations, and lacks a legally binding enforcement mechanism to make sure corporations are delivering on their promises of worker safety. VF Corporation has a choice. It can do the right thing or it can be on the wrong side of history. Lets make sure it makes the right choice. *Tell VF Corporation, which owns The North Face, Timberland and JanSport, to sign the Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh: * [ act.aflcio.org/c/18/p/dia/action3/common/public/?action_KEY=8090]*go.aflcio.org/north-face-death-trap* [ act.aflcio.org/c/18/p/dia/action3/common/public/?action_KEY=8090 ] In solidarity, Cathy --------------------Cathy Feingold Director of International Affairs, AFL-CIO ***** Visit us: aflcio.org/ facebook/aflciotwitter/#!/aflcio Text WORK to AFLCIO (235246) to join our text action team.
