From Champagne Bay in Vanuatu to the volcanic plateau of teh North Island of New Zealand is a big jump. We stayed for our last few days after the cruise at Maryanns sister Trishs place in Ohakune in the centre of the North Island. The 3 mountains Ngauruhoe, Tongariro and Ruapehu are all quietly active and a plume of smoke was coming out of the Northern Flank of Ngaurahoe. The Southern flanks of all three mountains have got their first coatings of snow and look truly magnificent. The ski season will start soon
