From Chapte 3 of "I was a drummer she was a dancer" age 5: Right around that time, my Mother took me to the Captain Eleven and The Three Stooges Show. It was a popular local TV kids program where this old Steamship Captain had kids on board his Mississippi river paddleboat, and they played Three Stooges shorts. I loved that show, and when they told me I was actually going to be on it, I was thrilled! So I was looking for the boat as we drove downtown. To my surprise, instead of getting on the boat, we walked into a tall building and went up an elevator! We came to a big room, and there it was. A fake set of the inside of the boat! And there was a model of the boat, about three feet long on the set that they would show during the show. “So this isn’t real?” I thought. “And where are The Three Stooges?” I still had fun, but that was quite the reality check for a six-year-old boy. Grown-ups lie, I thought. Who can you trust if you can’t trust grown-ups?
