From Cheyenne River Lakota (Nomads) NA MC Please read then decide if you can help our cause: Covering more than four thousand square miles, the Cheyenne River Reservation is the fourth largest Indian reservation in the United States. While the wide open spaces appear gorgeous and serene at first glance, a deeper look tells more of the story. People living on the Cheyenne River Reservation face some of the harshest weather conditions imaginable. From extreme heat and drought to fierce winter storms, the South Dakota weather presents unique challenges in itself. •Ziebach County, which is part of the Cheyenne River Reservation, has the highest child poverty rate in the nation. •According to the 2010 Census, Ziebach County’s per capita income was $7,463. The median income for a family was $18,672; 49.9% live below the poverty line. •Unemployment hovers between 75-85%. •Many of the 13 communities on the Cheyenne River Reservation do not have suitable water systems, which makes sanitation and general well-being serious issues. •According to Indian Housing (via Census Data), 14.7% of reservation residents live in over-crowded conditions, compared to 5.7% of the rest of the US. •Household conditions in many communities on the Cheyenne Indian Reservation are similar to those found in Third World countries. These conditions are caused, in part, by extreme poverty, desolation, substance addictions and more. Statistics detailing the reality of reservation life are grim. Please help use help some through the harsh winter ahead. Thank you. Cheyenne River Lakota (Nomads) NA MC · Because of the extreme poverty on the rez, outside assistance is always needed. The reality on many of the nation’s Native American reservations, places which are home to hundreds of thousands of people, many of whom, particularly infants and elders are in danger of freezing to death. Cheyenne River Lakota Nomads on the Cheyenne River Indian Reservation are having a fund raiser to try and help those in need. With unemployment running an average of 80% many of our children and elders will need help this winter. They will need coats hats gloves and anything to get them through the winter. There have been deaths among elders do to the severe weather and their inability to provide proper heating for themselves. Also their are people who just fall on bad times and we would like to help when and where we can. We have a bank account set up for the Cheyenne River Lakota Nomads, for the proper distribution of funds. Some of the materials will be distributed through the school system as we feel the teachers will more likely know what will be needed by who. Monies will be distributed on an as needed basis for heating etc... 100% of donations will go to those in need. Records and verification of all transaction will be kept and shown to anyone who questions the integrity of our actions. (Non-profit 501C3 status has been filed) The cold weather will be upon us very soon and we ask for your help to enable us to help the needy before its too late.
