From Dr Dennis Kinlaw june 6 a new song 2 chronicles 29:20 – 28 Hezekiah gave the order to sacrifice the burnt offering on the altar. As the offering began, singing to the LORD began also, accompanied by trumpets and the instruments of David king of Israel. 2 Chronicles 29:27 Singing is a very important aspect of the Christian walk. The religion of historic Israel and that of the Christian church has been marked by music as no other religious heritage in human history. Israel’s birth as a nation was celebrated in song. Moses and Miriam sang as they looked back on their deliverance from devastation in Egypt (Exod. 15). Deborah and Barak joined their voices in song when God set the Hebrews free from Canaanite oppression (Judg. 5). Jerusalem rang with the song of instruments and choirs when the ark was brought to the temple (1 Chron. 15:16–28). Song characterized the life of the people of God in Old Testament times when they walked faithfully before him. They sang when they worked, when they played, when they loved, and most of all when they worshiped. The adoration of God was difficult for them to conceive without a song. His presence quickened the joyous impulse to sing. This continued in the early church. Paul and Silas sang after they were beaten, imprisoned, and put in stocks. A Christian without a song is an anomaly. No greater mark of the difference between Christianity and other religions of the world can be found than that of a Bach choral piece, Handel’s Messiah, or an ordinary hymnbook in a Christian church. When the believer maintains a relationship of intimacy with Christ, joy is an inevitable by-product, and its natural expression is song. David knew this, and so he sang: “I will sing to the Lord because he has dealt bountifully with me” (Ps. 13:6 NKJV). When we let our relationship with Christ languish, our song dies and we grow silent. Is today a day of song for you?....Yes..Amen...Hallelujah! Kinlaw, Dennis F. (2010-05-15).
