From Herbert Byaruhanga. birduganda I love to mention how American birders inspire me. From nearly all the states, there is a birding organisation. The birders in the US appreciate themselves as birders of the same country and they share their information about birds and birding spots. They have quite a number of artists and writers. All book stores have books about birds in America and outside America. In almost every home I have visited, they have a library and this library several books about birds. There are very many researchers that keep the birding community with update information. I was happy be join my friend Jack Whetstone at San Pedro River AZ research station for banding. America has a nation wide programme for young birders. This is ensuring continuity of the birding business. I have traveled to 16 states of USA on birding and marketing trips. I have met a number of young birders with their mentors or parents. This keeps me committed to what I am doing back home. I know it is not easy in Uganda but I decided to start on it and others will follow. I was also inspired by the women birders in America. In Chicago IL I was guided by a lady Jane ( 60yrs). She suprised me with her skills of whistling birds. The number of women birders competes with men birders. This also has given strength to promote women birders in Uganda. It is working out. We now have over 30 women birders. Hariet Kemigisha, Prossy Nanyombi, Banura Agatha, Judith Mirembe, Slyvia Akongo, Meron Nayebare, Philo Adiebo, and many other women in Uganda give me confidence. Next time I am in the US I will be proud to announce that the programme is working. They can now proudly and confidently bird Uganda with women birders. I have been going to the USA since 2006. My first trip was purposely for attending the American Birding Convention. I met very good people. Every one was willing to help. I made friends on the first day. Bob, Jim by then working with Brunton Binoculars, Babra at Borderland Tours. She gave me warm clothing to help me on the pelargic trip. Bob came to Uganda two year ago. I have met very many people and many of them have come to visit Uganda for either birding or nature tours. We have become like brothers and sisters. I have friends in many places including, Maine Bangor, San Francisco Bay area, Sacramento, Davis, Chico, San Diego, Watsonville, Oregon, Arizona, Bisbee, Sieravista, Tuscon, Salt Lake City, Ohio, UTAH, Illinois, Louisiana, New Orleans, Philadelphia, New jersey, and many others. The longest drive has been from Bisbee AZ to Idaho, New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and many others.
