From Nikhil KV: (ഇൻഫോസിസ് ബ്ലോഗിൽ പോസ്റ്റ്‌ ചെയ്ത സാധനം ..! ) ********************* Schooldays were the most beautiful days in my life. There are a lot of things comes to my mind while thinking about the school. I enjoyed my school time to the fullest. My school was a Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Kerala which is under Ministry of HRD, Govt Of India. The school follows residential system where you can go home only during winter and Summer vacation time. Right from 6th standard, I was living in that school. I love my school so much and I miss it so badly now. It was that life which taught me how to live by my own. Right from washing my clothes and plates ,cleaning surroundings and to studying alone and appearing for exams…! well ..the list is so big..!I learnt all of them right from my 6th standard onwards. and the friends that I got from there..well …I don’t have enough words.. They were not friends but were part of a very big family..the Navodaya Family Surprisingly , even today we keep the same relation and meet whenever we get a chance. There were lot of naughty things, sweet things and sad things about my school life. I just want to share with you one of such incident . It was in 1995 and I was in my 7th std during that time. In our school, it was mandatory for students to stay in hostels. So bunking classes weren’t much fun as it would end up in yourself sitting alone in the hostel room . We were having staff nurse / medical facilities inside the campus itself. So even if you bunk the classes with a reason of being sick, they will admit you to the nursing room unless it is a major disease. If it is a major disease , they will send you home in order to prevent the disease being spread to other students. So we were waiting for some disease to come so that we can bunk the school. Once during a summer time, some of the students were identified as being affected with “conjunctivitis”- an eye disease which spreads very fast. In order to prevent this being spread, the Principal decided to sent the affected students back to their home. They were advised to join back only after it is completely cured and is allowed only with a fitness certificate from their physician. With great happiness, they all went home and came back after enjoying 2 weeks of vacation. I asked my friend Arun who was one among the affected , “Dude ! How long it took to cure” “I was alright within 3 days ..but decided to enjoy some more days of vacation..my parents were also happy about this ..because they were missing me so badly“- replied Arun. “ Lucky Guy” – I murmured myself. I decided that I will also bunk the classes and go home for a longer time when I get a chance. It was a fine morning in the month of March, when one of my friend Mithun noticed a kind of small bubble like rashes on some parts of his body . He went to the nurse and she confirmed that he was infected by Chicken Pox. But the expression on his face made me laugh. He was so happy that he was infected by Chicken Pox Virus. Now the Principal has to sent him home at any cost to prevent it being spread. “ Me too want to go home very badly da ..” I told another friend Jineesh. “Adi Macha …!” he agreed and we clashed the hands together. “ but how?” “ Will make a plan …You know..Vineesh is also interested..! He gave me an idea to make urself infected with this.” “ oh great man..but how?” “ We need to closely interact with him so that we catch Chicken pox” “Like what ?“ “ we will go sit on his bed and talk with him “ “ that’s great idea! “ I said. It was double Decker cot in Navodaya and luckily Vineesh was staying on the upper deck of the cot where Mithun was laying. I will get infected for sure ..I am so close to him Said Vineesh. We went and talked with Mithun , meanwhile Jineesh touched on one of the bubble on mithuns body and it popped out . Jineesh was happy as he believed that the virus will spread by then as it was popped. That day evening Mithun’s parents came to hostel and took him home. We escorted him up to school gate and bid good bye. “ Dude ..we spent all day with him..we will catch chicken pox tomorrow and will be going home..” said Jineesh. I woke up very early on the next day and rushed to the washroom area. I stood in front of the big mirror over there and started checking my body to find out chicken pox rashes. There was not even one of them. I was so sad and went to my friends . They were also very sad..because nobody was having any symptoms of chicken pox. Man this doesnt work..!It cannot be spread this way.I even applied that fluid out of his rashes on my body - Said Jineesh. Crazy Guy! -I thought. We had to go to the classes next day as well. 3 days passed and on the 4th day I spotted white bubble like rashes on my right hand. Yes thats it ..I was infected with the varicella zoster virus (VZV). My young mind was so happy because At that time I didnt know how worse it can be ! I visited the Staff Nurse and she confirmed that I am infected and she kept me in the medical room. “Man you’re lucky ! You can go home” My friends said. School staff were trying to reach my parents! .Remember ...it was back in 1995 where mobile phones doesnt exist and telephones were not so common. There was no telephone in my home during that time .(thanks to BSNL...they were taking long time to give new connections) The only mode of communication was through letters. So they try to call my fathers office and it was not getting connected. I was worried so I wrote a letter to my Dad on a Post card asking him to pick me from school. and I wrote Q.M.S on the top of the address. It was then believed that if you write like this, letter will be delivered soon. I still dont know whether it was true.. But the school staff was so smart and then they sent telegram to my home to pick me from school. I stayed for one more day in the medical room alone waiting for my parents. The next day my dad arrived in a white ambassador car..he was so tensed and was not smiling. At that time only ,I realised that this disease is something not so good. We reached my home around evening time. My mom and my neighbours were waiting for me .( I was living in a village were neighbors live like family) I looked in to their eyes .they were so tensed and my mom was crying.. I got in to the house. There was a special room arranged for me . There was my bed with Neem leaves spread around and they asked me to lay down on that and take rest. I wished to watch TV but they forbidden me from watching it ..as the virus will infect eyes as well. I spent around one month time in that room taking homeopathic medication and listening to songs from a cassette player . After one month, everything settled down and I got completely cured . So I thought I could enjoy but unfortunately my dad was suffering from chicken Pox by then Hence I came BACK TO SCHOOL without any fun or enjoyment and with a great regret of intentionally bringing in the disease to my home...! I n the class, I could see the sad faces of my friends Jineesh and Vineesh ..They were still waiting for the disease to come !!
