From Power Monkey Team Coach Colin (@colinpgeraghty). Why feet together? This is not gymnastics. There are no deductions if your feet come apart. This que has nothing to do with making the movement look pretty. Feet together (in hip extension) creates the best tension in the muscles that flex your hip. So when your feet go behind you, if they are together, you are loading the muscles properly (like stretching a rubber band) to snap back in the other direction. When your legs come apart, and the hip extends and externally rotates, your flexors are no longer being loaded to their full potential (just a loose rubber band hanging out). At this point you are using momentum, on top of poor positioning - as a compensation strategy. This means your arms need to do more work. Watch my back swing on the left side of clips 1&2. You can see my shoulder runs out of overhead slack and so my elbow bends out of position to make up for it. This is very common and usually leads to elbow/shoulder pain or injury. A smaller, tighter swing leaves less room for that. Master the hollow/arch positions on the floor and in your kip swings. Get stronger with strict movements. Prioritize improving mobility restrictions. Refine your skills. Add work capacity. Grow a beard. Be a champion. Feet together!!!!!
