From Ron Bishop: Here is a perfect example of how the citizens of Irondale are being locked out of discussions on items the city is working on or adopting. The Council President schedules a “work session”. This is to go over pending items and new items for the city. It has been stated in the past, that public participation in this meeting is allowed. As you can see in the video from the last one, when I asked a question, you get a blank stare or just ignored. The other meeting that is scheduled is the Agenda meeting. This is to go over the agenda items and allow any council member to ask questions and discuss. According to the Council President, the citizens have no input at “his” meeting. He stated that you can make comments or ask questions after the meeting. Where he can ignore your question and walk out the door. At the agenda meeting, items are on the list that have not been made public at the “work session”, so any information the public wants about these items are up to the discretion of the council. When they change the Pre Council meeting to 30 minutes, the only time a public forum on the agenda items will be at the regular council meeting. This is a one question format that does not allow a meaningful discussion of items. If you want to be able to participate in your city government, please call your council person and voice your opinion on this matter.
