From Ron Sider: It is a delight to join in the 40th Anniversary of the William E. Pannell Center for African-American Church Studies at Fuller Seminary. Bill has been a powerful, courageous voice summoning white evangelicals to deal with their racism for many decades. I first met Bill at the 1973 Thanksgiving Workshop that produced the Chicago Declaration of Evangelical Concern (ESA’s founding document). One especially powerful line from Bill’s address at that meeting made the CBS Evening News. Bill has been strong voice calling us to holistic mission and economic justice as well as racial justice. I am afraid the events of the last few months in Ferguson, New York City, and elsewhere demonstrate that we still need Bill’s vigorous voice to challenge us to repent and change. Thank you dear friend for all your faithful, prophetic work for Christ’s Kingdom.
