From Syracuse: Foxborough, Mass. — The Buffalo Bills could be turning to a familiar face to help end a 15-year playoff drought. According to Pro Football Talk, the Bills could hire former general manager Bill Polian as soon as Monday. The report didnt indicate a specific job title for Polian but said the Bills could try to create a job description that doesnt reset the clock on Polians Hall of Fame candidacy. As of a few months ago, Polian said he hadnt been contacted by the Bills and that he hadnt thought about a return. He couldnt be reached for comment on Saturday. Pro Football Talk also said general manager Doug Whaley and CEO Russ Brandon may not be safe based on the first-round whiff on EJ Manuel and the Sammy Watkins trade, which cost the team a 2015 first round pick. Its worth noting that Polian recently praised Bills coach Doug Marrone and called him a coach of the year candidate, so if the former general manager makes a return, that could be good news for Marrone. Polian was not only the architect of the Bills teams that went to four straight Super Bowls, but he was the general manager of the Carolina Panthers team that made it to the NFC Championship Game in only its second season in the league and drafted Peyton Manning in Indianapolis helping them to a Super Bowl. His arrival in Buffalo would certainly be quite the splash for Terry and Kim Pegula, who have been quiet about their intentions with the team since taking over as owners in October.
