From The People, LLC: ACTION ITEM: LABI & The Chambers of Commerce We posted a letter to the FB pages of LABI & the Baton Rouge Area Chamber. Please, go to the websites of the Chamber of Commerce in your area and of LABI. Find the business owners from your community that are members of either of these organizations and, either use our letter and sign it from yourself; or, draft your own and send it: Dear LABI and/or Chambers of Commerce Members: We want to alert you to the fact that the Chambers of Commerce and LABI have been drivers behind the Common Core State Standards Initiative and Education Reform in Louisiana. You may be interested to know that many in your communities are vehemently opposed to these reforms. The Education Reform Movement and Common Core State Standards Initiative are transforming our schools into workforce training facilities. Our children will be trained to function as employees in whatever field is chosen for them by a workforce commission—a government agency. At the same time, they are being denied the education which is essential for them to function as free citizens in a truly free society. The entire Education Reform Movement along with its Common Core State Standards Initiative has been sold to the business community as the answer to all of our state’s problems. The facts, however, paint a very different picture: federal control over education is strengthened; our children and tax dollars are removed from our neighborhoods; government decides the jobs for which our children will train; and, our representative form of government is replaced with unelected boards and commissions made up of stakeholders from organizations such as your own. The Common Core State Standards Initiative and Education Reform serve as an attack on the protections of our American freedoms for which you and/or your family members may have sacrificed: representative government; protection against taxation without representation; state sovereignty; and, the unalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. What pride, then, can you possibly possess from membership in an organization whose attack on the liberties of American children is being waged so that the government can guarantee you a workforce paid for by taxpayers? It is not the job of government to guarantee a workforce. We will not stand idly by and allow this travesty to steal our children’s futures. We are the authority in our children’s lives and we will provide the direction for their education—not the government or its partners in the business community who view our children as merely their human capital. We encourage you to withdraw your association with LABI and/or the Chambers of Commerce. The People, LLC
