From a site I belong to... Yesterday, a 19-year-old young man was killed. He didnt die in a car wreck or from an illness; he died at the hands of violence. He was singled out because of where he came from; he was targeted because of how he was dressed. He wasnt trying to hurt anyone, but his young life was snuffed-out nonetheless. Senseless violence robbed us of a young man of unknown potential. His Mother grieves the loss of her young son; his Fathers heart hurts from the pain of such unimaginable loss. He is dead and that cannot be undone. We didnt hear about the death because it didnt involve a victim and a police officer of different races. We didnt hear about it because there were no marches, protests and civil disobedience after the death. We didnt hear about it because the President didnt get on TV and make a speech, condemning those who murdered this young man. We didnt hear about it because every TV network didnt pre-empt regular programming to cover the death non-stop. We didnt hear about it because the young man was an American Warrior who was killed in the line of duty in Afghanistan. Is his life worth less than anyone else who died by violent means? I pray to God it isnt.
