From a writers perspective, hats off to Mr. Tovar. Regardless of who their response annoys, or how condescending it might appear at first blush, Walmart comes out looking like a good corporation fighting the good fight against a writer whose piece is full of vagaries, rhetoric, undocumented assertions and, depending on whom you believe, some outright mistakes. To do this in the guise of editing a first draft (wink wink) only adds a tongue-in-cheek quality that definitely gets peoples attention. Had the world’s biggest retailer simply issued a statement in response (yawn) – making all the same points – who would’ve noticed? Or had they submitted a letter to the editor (snore), would anyone be talking about it a day later, let alone a week?
