From my own observation, 80% of grade 12 pupils in Zambia need psychosocial counseling. They seem to believe no one can pass grade 12 exam without leakages. This misleading notion needs to be seriously attended to. As teachers we need to take a hard stance and stamp out leakages in final exams. Leakages affect the whole system whether we like it or not. We more often complain of teachers who do not know how to teach, medical personal who not to know how to deal with patients, Lawyers with no standard, accountants who cannot balance anything, Journalists who cannot present anything properly and engineers who cannot design or work on anything among others. What we are forgetting is that leakages can be a reason for the undesirable perfomance of trained personnel. Additionally, leakages deny pupils from poor backgrounds and those with genuine results the opportunity to enter colleges and universities as most of the places will be taken by those with fake results.
