From my recent trip to Cambodia, I bring you the horrible pictures - TopicsExpress

From my recent trip to Cambodia, I bring you the horrible pictures that show the dark side of tourism. Koh Rong, Cambodia is a white sand beach and its being trashed by irresponsible for-profit tourism. With NO sewage treatment, you can see a black river of toilet waste and other toxins flow across some locals walking their buffalo. That sewage drains into Tui Beachs ocean where many tourist play and bathe That is how people get worms and hepatitis A!! The next two pictures show a plastic bag ( which are usually eaten by marine life) and a wicker chair rotting on the rocks of a beach of an otherwise beautiful rocky shoreline. In the final picture, there is smoke from the main tourist town. That smoke, discovered from my walk earlier, is from burning trash and plastics. If foreign investors and local entrepreneurs are permitted to trash the very land that they wish to profit from, there will no longer be a paradise left. Look at Phuket, Thailand. Patong Beach is a dump! Meanwhile, I hear tourist talk about goign to Cambodias beaches because its thailand before it got developed. Everyone it seems flocks to the places that are undeveloped and by doing so they are polluting tho areas with single-use plastics from water bottle and food packaging and they are creating a tourism market place where ignorant /neglect locals pollute the hell out of these areas to profit from opening a hostel. This must stop! Even if you think you will never visit a tropical island, this is a crucial issue because tourism is a major form of pollution that most likely affects your city too. If we can spread awareness about this and only support eco-friendly businesses when we travel, we can create an incentive for most all hostels to go green and keep our earth clean for travel. After all, would you pay thousands of dollars to only find out you cannot swim in the ocean without getting sick or a nasty rash?
