From our friends at CRCC: The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) - TopicsExpress

From our friends at CRCC: The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) recently submitted an information collection request proposal for the Occupational Requirements Survey (ORS) to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). The ORS, which seeks to collect occupational data based on the physical and cognitive demands of jobs, would provide a resource to replace the Dictionary of Occupational Titles (DOT) currently used by the Social Security Administration (SSA) in its disability adjudication process. This is an important issue for those who use occupational data, particularly in relation to SSA and other social insurance or disability systems. Public comment up to this point has raised concerns over the validity of the instruments and other research and classification procedures for the data being collected by the ORS, as well as the potential impact these data will have on disability determination within SSA and in other settings outside the agency. The proposal is open for public comment through August 22, 2014. We encourage CRCs to express their views to OMB by the August 22 deadline. To read and comment on the ORS proposal, click here.
